BISHOP’S ACTION REBUKED

Three days after publishing a news item entitled “New Principal for American College“ (see THE HINDU, dated 29-010-2011 PAGE 3), The Hindu news paper has published the following news item compensating for their ‘one-sided’ act. In this article too they have conveniently ‘hidden’ the fact (or) carefully avoided the fact (or) failed to mention (purposely?) that Davamani Christober,  ‘New Principal’ elected by Bishop Asir is none other than his own SON-IN-LAW!

The Hindu is always known for its unbiased, authenticated news items. But the team (the special correspondent) of ‘Madurai edition’ seems to act strangely, by publishing dubious news favouring one group when it comes to The American College matter.

The same ‘mishap’ was pointed out by many of our blog readers. To make it short I quote here the comments of Prof. Rajendra Pandian to the news item published in Deccan Chronicle yesterday  -  “ The DECCAN CHRONICLE highlights what exactly THE HINDU hides: the Bishop has made his own son-in-law the Principal—leave alone in blatant violation of the procedure”

I thank ‘The Hindu’ for publishing this news item.

I do hope that The Hindu will publish unbiased articles in future.

APPOINTMENT OF COLLEGE PRINCIPAL CONTEMPT OF COURT

Special Correspondent, 02-11-2011     THE HINDU, PAGE 3

The rival group in American College here has termed as ‘illegal’ the convening of a governing council meeting last week by Christopher Asir, Bishop, Church of South India (Madurai-Ramnad Diocese), to appoint a new principal.

“Appointment of Davamani Christober as the Principal at this juncture is illegal and amounts to contempt of court. The governing council can be convened only by the college Secretary and the Bishop has NO locus standi in doing so [refer the Judgement : http://judis.nic.in/judis_chennai/qrydisp.aspx?filename=20120] . When the legitimacy of the governing council is itself under sub judice both in the High Court and the District Court, the October 28, 2011 meeting [convened by Bishop] is null and void,” P.R. Anbudurai, Principal-in-charge, The American College, said in a press statement here on Monday.

He pointed out that the Acting Principal, R. Mohan, who was in office till October 28, 2011, was NOT allowed to act as college secreatry either by the State government or High Court. “This was made very clear in the judgment pronounced by the High Court on August 25, 2011 with regard to salary disbursement [refer the judgment - http://judis.nic.in/judis_chennai/qrydisp.aspx?filename=33474].  Justice Chandru made it clear that the pending salaries should be disbursed only by the office of the Joint Director of Collegiate Education and NOT by Mr. MohanThe government, in its representation before the High Court, had categorically stated that Mr. Mohan was NOT the college secretary and NO such approval [as claimed by the Bishop’s group] had been given [favouring Mr. Mohan as the Principal],” Dr. Anbudurai said.
