I am writing this especially to thank Deccan Chronicle newspaper for their consistent support for our cause to save American College.
The American College is one of a very few Christian colleges in India committed to non sectarian ideals, Christian inclusiveness and excellence in education.
The American College is one of the unique educational institutions in India that is being managed by an independent society independent of any Church affiliations.
It is mischievously propagated by the Bishop of Madurai-Ramnad Diocese, Christopher Asir, that the college is owned by the Church of South India.
Since the beginning of 2008, he has been using any means to try and take over the college. He is primarily interested in commercializing education and leasing out the college property, as he has done with many of the church properties.
His malicious intentions came to surface recently through the illegal appointment of his son-in-law Davamani Christober as the Principal of the college. Thanks to your daily, that brought to public by promptly publishing the article "American College in fresh controversy" on the 1st of November 2011.(Refer: http://saveamericancollege.blogspot.com/2011/11/american-college-in-fresh-controversy.html).
Majority of the Faculty, non-teaching staff are fighting against the Bishop's illegal move to save the college for the past three years.
Our only hope to take this matter to public and to the government is media.
We, the Faculty and non-teaching staff like to place on record the services done by Deccan Chronicle by supporting our struggle by publishing timely and impartial reports in this regard.
Hope to have your continued support.
