Examinations for the students of American College will be conducted soon. A decision to this effect
was made in the academic council of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here on Tuesday.
R. K. Alagesan, Head of the Department of Tamil, American College,brought forward an adjournment motion in the meeting. He urged the academic council to conduct the semester exam for the American College students that should have been conducted in November 2011.
Alagesan alleged that the person (Late Bishop Asir's son-in-law - Davamani) who is occupying the post of principal was not selected through a proper procedure. He did not conduct the semester examinations for the students. Alagesan said that they had sent around 10 letters to MKU urging the conduct of the examination and made at least 10 personal visits to the university emphasizing their demands. However, MKU has not taken any decision to help the students, said Alagesan.
He said that there were many unresolved issues between the faculty and the college management (the present illegal occupants in the administration of the college). Some members of the faculty have not received salaries for about (one year and) six months. MKU should come forward at least to resolve the students' problem, he demanded.
Alagesan reminded that the MKU had appointed two observers to conduct the last semester exam in November 2010. But the mark lists for the exam were not distributed to the students. He demanded the MKU to take necessary steps to conduct semester exams as early as possible and issue the pending mark lists.
